What is a door U value?

U value ratings

Since October 2010, Government legislation has stated that all replacement composite doors must adhere to a U value rating of 1.8W/m2K or less.

‘What is a U value?’ you may be wondering.

U value is the name given to the measurement of heat transfer through a given building material such as a composite door or a glass window. Basically, it’s a measure indicating exactly how energy efficient your new door will be.

For regular doors that use different materials, compliance with this legislation is neither required nor guaranteed, meaning that their energy efficiency is almost impossible to measure. At Yale door however, every one of our doors adheres to the U value legislation and your purchase will even come with a compliance energy certificate to prove it!

thermal efficiency

Since October 2010, Government legislation has stated that all composite doors must adhere to a U value rating of 1.8W/m2K (1.6W/m2K in Scotland) or less.

The great news is that Yale Door is fully dedicated to complying with these tough regulations and each and every one of the designs we manufacture and install is U value compliant!

How do door U values affect you?

lower energy bills

Each of our doors is cleverly designed to be thermally efficient, which means that they work hard to keep heat in your home. Every one of our composite doors is solid framed, 1.7 inches thick and has passed a battery of tests to prove just how thermally efficient it is. The U value of our doors is down to 1.0W/(m2.K) with great thermal performance – and you get a certificate to prove it!

Simply put, this will result in lower energy bills for you.

Out u Value compliance

For regular doors that use different materials, compliance with this legislation is neither required nor guaranteed, meaning that their energy efficiency is almost impossible to measure. At Yale, however, every one of our doors adheres to the U value legislation, scoring between 1.0 and 1.8 W/(m2.K). You needn’t take our word for it – your order will even come with an independently verified compliance energy certificate to prove it!

Each U value certificate will be emailed to you, after you’ve ordered your door – and don’t worry, this won’t be a generic one-certificate-fits-all; every U value compliance certificate will be specifically tailored to your order.
