Energy Rated Doors

What is a door U value?

New government legislation state that from October 2010 all replacement composite doors will have to adhere to a door U value rating of 1.8W/m2K or less, the same as windows.

For those of you wondering ‘what is a U value?’ (don't worry, you're not alone!) U-value is the measurement of heat transfer through a given building material, glass, etc. Basically it is a reference as to how energy efficient your new door will be.

For other doors using different materials, compliance is in no way guaranteed, and in some cases will be extremely difficult. Yale doors already comply with these U values and include a compliance energy certificate for your exact door to prove it.

Door U value legislation

From October 2010 all replacement doors will have to adhere to a new door U value legislation. New doors need to have a U value rating of 1.8W/m2K (1.6W/m2K in Scotland) or less. Each and every composite Yale door we manufacture and install is already U value compliant.

Yale Door is dedicated to fully complying with these tough new door regulations and providing a greener alternative to uPVC and Timber doors.

How do door U values effect you?

How do door U Values effetct you? Each energy efficient door is cleverly designed to be thermally efficient, working harder to keep heat in your home. Yale's whole range of composite doors are solid framed and 1.7 inches thick, and have passed a battery of tests to prove just how thermally efficient it is. The results? U values of down to 1.0W/(m2.K) with great thermal performance, with a certificate to prove it.

All adding up to lower energy bills for you.

Yale door's U values

For other doors using different materials, U value compliance is in no way guaranteed, and may be extremely difficult. All Yale composite doors meet the strict new door U value standards, with every door scoring between 1.0 and 1.8 W/(m2.K). But you don’t have to take our word for it, Yale door will provide an independently verified certificate with each door purchased online.

Each U value door certificate will be emailed to you as soon as you’ve ordered. This won’t be a generic certificate for the style of the door – every U value compliance certificate will be tailored to your specific door set-up.

From ordering to fitting, everything was painless and straightforward.

Within an hour of ordering on the website I received a phone call from Evander (Yale doors fitters) to arrange the survey. This was arranged for the day after ordering between 9am and 1pm. The surveyor was late, but it was the worst day of snow we had seen in recent years and he did phone to tell me he was running late and he asked if it was still convenient for him to call. The surveyor measured ...
